How this username generator works

Every name is assembled in your browser from three built-in word lists — 160 adjectives, 152 nouns and 152 verbs — combined through eight formatting styles. A keyword changes the recipe: instead of being pasted onto the end, it takes the place of one component, so “wolf” produces WolfHarbor and lunar_wolf rather than SwiftFalconWolf. With no keyword, the lists supply both parts. The raw combination space runs into the millions before numbers and leet substitutions are counted, which is why batches rarely repeat themselves.

One honest limit, stated plainly: this generator does not and cannot check availability. No website outside a platform can truly know whether a name is taken there — availability lives in each platform's own signup form, and names get claimed and released constantly. Treat everything here as a shortlist of ideas, then confirm your favorite where you actually plan to use it.

The eight styles, and when each one fits

  • Compound word (SwiftFalcon) — clean, brandable, reads well everywhere.
  • Word + number (Echo404) — the classic fallback when the plain word is gone; short numbers look deliberate, birth years look dated.
  • snake_case (dark_signal) — friendly on Discord, forums and developer-adjacent spaces.
  • dotted (iron.drift) — neat and minimal; check the platform allows periods (see the rules table).
  • x-prefix (xVoidRider) — a gaming staple; one x is a style choice, three is a cry for help.
  • The + noun (TheRealEcho) — confident and meme-aware; works best for personas, not brands.
  • Leet-style (5h4d0w) — number-letter swaps for a stylized, retro-hacker feel; keep it readable.
  • Action phrase (WolfRuns99) — a tiny story in a name; great for gamers and creators.

Frequently asked questions

Can UsernameGen check if a username is available?

No — and be wary of any tool that promises otherwise. Availability is decided by each platform's own system at the moment you sign up. This site only generates ideas; check your finalists on the platform itself.

How does the keyword change the results?

Your keyword replaces one building block inside each style: compounds become Keyword + noun or adjective + Keyword, phrases become Keyword + verb, and dotted/snake styles place it on either side. You will see it in most — not forced into every single — results.

Is it free? Do you store what I type?

Free, with no account. Generation runs locally in your browser; your keyword never leaves your device. Favorites are stored in your browser's local storage only, and disappear if you clear site data.

Can I use a generated name commercially?

The names are random word combinations, free for you to use. Names are not trademarks cleared — if you plan to build a business or channel brand on one, do a trademark and domain check yourself first.
